Board Talk, Feb. 1984 – The next weekend, 20 teams gathered at the Wagon Wheel Tavern (Lake Orion) for a mixed double event. The tournament was a double elimination with the winners on each board advancing to the finals and the runners-up on each board playing for third and fourth places.
The south board champs, Cheryl Collins and John McDermott, defeated the north board winners, Dennis Wilson and Elly Canterbury, two games to one. McDermott and Collins won the tournament by posting a 15-3 win in the final game, giving Wilson and Canterbury second-place honors. Phil and Lenny McGrue took third. The father-daughter team of Marv Foster and Shelly Usik took fourth.
