VFW Post #1051
Ripon, California
This year’s Presidents’ Day Tournament was held at the V.F.W. Post 1051 in Ripon, CA.
In total, 86 players entered the 5 event, 5 day competition. Billy Maxwell (Great West Shuffleboard) supplied the 7 boards that were used. The tournament started on Thursday, February 16th, with an A/B Draw event. On Friday night the ABC Draw began. On Saturday morning, the Open Doubles played its first game and the ABC and Doubles ran throughout the day. On Sunday, 3 events were running simultaneously; the Open Doubles, the Open Singles, and the Add-to-3 Bring partner event.
Except for the RV issue, the V.F.W. did a wonderful job. Tasty dishes were served up throughout the tournament, and the VFW crew were courteous, helpful and most accommodating, as they we introduced to the world of shuffleboard tournaments.
On Saturday we proudly inducted Bob Hunt and Nick Chaffin into the California Shuffleboard Hall of Fame. A memorial service took place on Saturday in honor of one our most beloved friends from the shuffleboard world, Fred Thuman, who had passed away only a couple of weeks before the tournament.
