Celebration was underway this weekend at the Red Dog Saloon and Blue Goose Taverns.
When it became evident there would be no PNSE tournament at Little Creek Casino this year the shuffleboard players rallied together once again to create a tournament. Too many people had planned on taking advantage of the long week-end in advance and were looking forward to some board competition. Sooooooooo. An ABC draw was decided on and thanks to our technology of the 21st century, phone calls and e-mails made it happen quickly.
Mike Waters took charge this week-end and doled out responsibilities. Norm McVeigh ran the calcutta, Clark Kenney took care of the bracket board and Linda Walker assembled the food. Mel Hohn, Frank Mako, and Claire Kenney filled in where needed.
The Friday night draw attracted twenty six players. Gordie Smith from Canada drove down with his lovely wife Patti. They encouraged two more couples, Ed and Jackie Stolarchek and Tom Joyce and Agnes Lee to accompany them. All very friendly people and fun to be around.
Grant Manning, (ex California, ex Nevada, ex Arizona player) drew Wayne Demick a Red Dog local and took 1st place. Clark Kenney drew Ed Stolarchek from Canada and took 2nd place.
Saturday morning thirty-six players signed up making thirteen teams of ABC. Grant Manning still on a victory run drew Joe Paszkowski for his B player and Mike Jewett from Burlington for his C player and had no problem taking home 1st place. Good week-end for Grant. Dave Forbes with Jeff Mercer as his B and Bob Van Bargen as his C took 2nd. Third went to Justin Kasa, Mike Strayer and Gary DuPont.
Here’s a thank you to our sponsor Dee Hudson who is always willing to help the players. Another thank you to all who gave their time to help make the event a success and a big thank you to all the players who come together to support each other and the game we love.
Those of us who “also-ran” will have another turn another time. As we know the next competition is just a phone call or e-mail away:)
