Two shuffleboard events were held April 12-14 at the Burlington Eagles and Gene’s Pub in Burlington, WA, as part of a weekend fundraiser, organized by members of the Skagit Lonboard Association league in cooperation with the Eagles, to benefit the cancer care fund of the Skagit County Regional Cancer Clinic.
The Second Annual A/B/C Draw tournament on Saturday/Sunday had 10 teams and was won by the team of Gordie Smith (B.C.), Bruce Fowler (Burlington), and Agnes Lee (B.C.).
Finishing a close second were the trio of Jim Stull (Burlington), Mike Conn (Edison, WA), and Ron Hass (Edison); with the team of Buck Buckius (Burlington), Ken Allen (Bayview, WA), and Ben Hurt (Mount Vernon, WA) claiming third.
Friday night’s A/B draw had 26 entrants and was won by Steven Blau & Cody Archer (both Burlington).
A Footnote: Gordie Smith has won this event both years. It is interesting, and touching, to note that last year his team also included a fellow from Burlington named Fowler (Tom, no relation to Bruce), and a lady shooter from Canada. And that of course was his lady love, the late Patti Preymak.
Gordie donated two boards for use in this tournament, both of which played great. Thanks again Gordie!
Thanks to everyone who played and donated, and all the committee members for their hard work. The final figures aren’t in yet, but it is believed that we cracked the $5,000 level for money raised by the various events and promotions.
