The 28th running of the Tournament Of Champions shuffleboard tournament was held on Saturday June 6th, 2009. This tournament was started in 1991 and has been played each and every year since. Some years this tournament was played twice in one year. This is Saint Louis’ oldest running tournament. This year’s turnout was a little light with only 8 teams compared to 12 from last year. Taking 3rd place was the team of Steve Kane and Melanie Shipp. Steve and Melanie played well all day and lost a very tough game 15-14 in the winners side of the bracket.
Finishing in 2nd place was Jack Murphy and Mike Polson. Jack and Mike also finished in 2nd place last year in this same tournament. Way to go guys. This year’s champion and a repeat of last year was Jill Romay and Jerry Romay. This was the second year in a row Jill and Jerry had to play Jack and Mike in the finals. Special thanks to Mike Polson-Calcutta and to Ellie Coleman, Jack Murphy, Julie Rey, Jill Romay, and Lisa Romay for bringing food for the players. Hope to see you next year.
